Rep. Sykes Named Vice Ranking Member of House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13) announced that she has been named the Vice Ranking Member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure in the 119th Congress. Rep. Sykes will retain her seats on the Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment and the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, and will now also sit on the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials.
“It is an honor to serve on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and I’m excited to be named the Vice Ranking Member of the Committee. I’m looking forward to using my position as a member of Committee leadership to continue working alongside my colleagues to deliver real results for the 13th Congressional District of Ohio,” said Rep. Sykes. “Ohio has the fifth largest interstate system, the fourth largest number of active rail-miles, and the third largest number of bridges in the country, which means that our infrastructure plays a vital role in the lives of our residents and Americans throughout the country. I will continue to fight for improved infrastructure that supports Ohio’s economy, public safety, and quality of life, including modernizing and innovating our roads, bridges, and energy grid.”
Rep. Sykes has a long record of fighting for improved infrastructure in the 13th District and throughout Ohio.
Rep. Sykes is the primary sponsor of the RAIL Act, bipartisan legislation that would improve railway safety, protect our communities, and hold negligent railroad corporations accountable. Rep. Sykes has been a staunch advocate for an Amtrak expansion route in the Akron-Canton region.
Earlier this month, Rep. Sykes secured a $10 million grant for the City of Akron, which was awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to help with the Reconnecting West Akron Innerbelt Project. In 2024, Rep. Sykes wrote a letter of support to DOT Secretary Buttigieg to support this project and grant award.
While serving in the state legislature, Rep. Strong Sykes fought for significant investments in Ohio’s transportation systems and infrastructure. During her time as Minority Leader, she led the charge to increase support for public transportation in Ohio to a historic level. She secured $140 million for the state’s public transit systems, a 12.5 percent increase for the local community share of new gas tax revenue, and more than $700 million for improving the state’s roads and infrastructure.
